Psychological and Investigative Science
Dr. Sarah MacDonald is a Forensic Psychologist based in Calgary, Alberta. She is certified in Advanced Cognitive Interviewing from the U.K. and has since developed and taught this course (the first of it's kind in North America) to Canadian police officers in Major Crime who interview significant witnesses and victims of crime. Previously, she played an integral role in the training of wide range of members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary to conduct effective interviews, which included officers in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), frontline officers, and police recruits.
The progressive decision for professionals to adopt this training has been viewed very positively by many across Canada, including police, judges, lawyers, the general public, academics, and journalists.
In addition to law enforcement, training in evidence-based information gathering approaches and scientific credibility assessment is available for a variety of other professionals, such as: Root-cause Investigators, Investigators on Special Incident Response Teams, Fire Investigators, Fraud Investigators, Risk Managers, Barristers and Solicitors, Asset Managers, and Health Professionals, among others. Please see below for more detailed information about the learning objectives associated with a few particular areas.
Training can be modified to meet the needs of individuals, working groups, or organizations and can include half-day, one-day, and two-day workshops. Training of advanced skills is recommended to take place over the course of one, and in some instances, two weeks of full time engagement.
